Guess Who?
I really just want a new profile picture, but since it's here I challenge everyone (not Ines) to guess who this is and why I picked her. And for bonus points, to connect her to the boy scouts through a rather short chain of associations.
No you didn't. But been related with your steel lily, I suppose she was french. So english. ¿Or british? One more thing. Is margaret, isn't she? Or Mary?
Give up? Margaret Roper, nee More. St. Thomas More's eldest daughter, Classics student and translator of Erasmus. Whose biography was writen by Ernest Edwin Reynolds, very influential in the early days of the scout movement and first editor of their magazine.
My heart sinks, but I cannot complain since I have just switched photos.
ReplyDeleteWere there more of a resemblance, I would have guessed Saint Margaret Clitherow.
It's that one lady that one artist painted....you know.....her.
ReplyDeleteYep, that's right. I now have a different and better picture of her.
ReplyDeleteActually, it looks just as blurry now. Oh well. Margaret Clitherow is a contemporary more or less, but nope.
ReplyDeleteMargaret is right, Clitherow isn't...
ReplyDeleteNice picture, Crusader!

ReplyDeleteMargaret and french...¿sure is circa XVI century? ¿Maybe Scottish?
ReplyDeleteDid I say French? Well, she's wearing a French hood, but no... Crusader88 was right about the country of origin, too.

ReplyDeleteYes, she is Margaret. But which?...
ReplyDelete¿Gautier? ¿Gutier-rez?
ReplyDeleteBesides, you didn't answer the year, my dear. Nor the century, eventually.
ReplyDeleteEarly 1500's, England... what else do you need? You'll never get it.
ReplyDeleteI never tried. I'm just bothering.
ReplyDeleteGive up?
